Chapter seven: ...Or the Bible
In this chapter is is suggested that many stories are based upon those of the Bible due to the fact that they already have certain thoughts and ways of thinking around them that may help us to gain a more in-depth thinking or a better understanding of the story.
It is also suggested that writers use Christ figures because of the connotations of how a Christ figure would act - self-sacrificing, very forgiving, likes to tell stories - and this helps us to form in our minds what the character is like. This can also be shown through other methods such as wounds to the hands, feet and sides, doesn't like to use fancy ways to get around, gets tempted by the devil and likes to be alone in the wild.
Writers using stories from the Bible are especially useful for giving a setting, such as in the movie "East of Eden" , this is because if a person was East of the Garden of Eden then they would be in a "fallen world" which assists in the froming of an idea for the viewer of the film.
